First, when X starts, the screen is tinted blue. I have to cycle to the external monitor and back (Fn-f3) and things work fine. Second, for reasons that I haven't figured out, I can't record sound. Playback works fine, but recording is always garbled. I asked about this on misc@ sometime ago and never got a reply. There is a bios option called "Operating System" which can be helpfully set to "Windows NT" or "Windows 95." Before 2.8, this needed to be set to Windows NT. With 2.8 (and I assume 2.9), this now has to be set to Windows 95. If this setting is wrong, obsd won't detect your pcmcia stuff. If you'd like more information or help getting things set up, send me an e-mail; I'll be happy to help. aisa From owner-openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Tue Jun 5 11:16:40 2001 Return-Path: Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile-outgoing@naughty.monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 502) id 4279F1159F; Tue, 5 Jun 2001 11:16:40 -0400 (EDT) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix, from userid 1001) id 59ED41159A; Tue, 5 Jun 2001 11:16:39 -0400 (EDT) Received: from perec.uol.com.br (perec.uol.com.br [200.231.206.204]) by naughty.monkey.org (Postfix) with ESMTP id B094A1159A for ; Tue, 5 Jun 2001 10:13:19 -0400 (EDT) Received: from jazz.lcmi.ufsc.br (200227204117-dial-user-UOL.acessonet.com.br [200.227.204.117]) by perec.uol.com.br (8.9.1/8.9.1) with ESMTP id LAA20621; Tue, 5 Jun 2001 11:14:29 -0300 (BRT) Received: (from obelix@localhost) by jazz.lcmi.ufsc.br (8.9.3/8.9.3) id LAA00291; Tue, 5 Jun 2001 11:10:20 -0300 Date: Tue, 5 Jun 2001 11:10:20 -0300 From: Rafael Rodrigues Obelheiro To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org, misc@openbsd.org Subject: OpenBSD-mobile: Unrecognized CardBus NIC (0x13d1, 0xab02) Message-ID: <20010605111020.A287@lcmi.ufsc.br> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline User-Agent: Mutt/1.2.5i X-PGP-Key: http://www.lcmi.ufsc.br/~obelix/obelix.asc Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk Hi, Testing a Texas Extensa 390 notebook for OpenBSD compatibility, I found out that its NIC isn't recognized properly. Are there any documents describing how to get sound working under OpenBSD in general and on the Dell specifically? I've tried searching the OpenBSD website and mailing lists, but everyone seems to have sound working just fine... tia, /g. -- Gustaf Erikson -+- +46 70 444 0726 -+- [http://stureby.net/] --=-=-= Content-Disposition: attachment; Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk Can someone recommend a PCMCIA modem (that I can still buy) that will work well with OpenBSD 2.9? I've tried a couple of (non-winmodem, obviously) modems on various IBM thinkpads. Usually what happens is that I try to talk to the modem with tip, and the tip process hangs (cannot be killed with SIGKILL). Interestingly, the kernel printfs are not consistent for multiple insertions of the same modem (sometimes claims 16450 UART, somtimes 16550). It could be that the modems I've tried were defective (one of them actually works on occasion), so this isn't necessarily a bug in OpenBSD. It would be nice to buy a modem that I know will work, though, so I'd appreciate hearing people's experiences.
