If you got suggestions for my kernel config, please tell me) I just did a "make build" and everything worked fine. The system has a buildin sound system, it's identified as: sb0 at isa0 port 0x220-0x237 irq 7 drq 1: dsp v3.02 audio0 at sb0 If I run mixerctl -a -v I get the following output: outputs.master=128,128 volume outputs.fmsynth=128,128 volume outputs.cd=128,128 volume outputs.dac=128,128 volume outputs.mic=0 volume outputs.line=0,0 volume record.source= [ mic cd line ] inputs.treble=off [ off on ] inputs.bass=on [ off on ] Weird thing is, beeping (console) works 'fine', but playing for example an mp3 with amp or mpg123 gives *no* sound at all. With mixerctl, I can change the settings, switch on the microphone, vary the levels of the volumes and such, but no output from the DAC. This will help to make the PCMCIA code safer when it has to pick up an irq. Thanks, Federico Schwindt.- btw, I need this fast because the 2.4 release is about to close. -- Let the programmers be many and the managers Federico G. Schwindt few -- then all will be productive. fgsch@openbsd.org From owner-openbsd-mobile-outgoing Tue Oct 13 09:47:34 1998 Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile-outgoing@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (VMailer, from userid 502) id D00657C1C; Tue, 13 Oct 1998 08:47:34 -0500 (EST) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (VMailer, from userid 1001) id D006A520A; Tue, 13 Oct 1998 08:47:31 -0500 (EST) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: from lucifier.dial-up.user.akula.net (lucifier.dial-up.user.akula.net 208.140.175.58) by naughty.monkey.org (VMailer) via SMTP id CFF8AC37B; Tue, 13 Oct 1998 00:56:12 -0500 (EST) Received: (from mickey@localhost) by lucifier.dial-up.user.akula.net (8.9.1/8.8.8) id CAA28102; Tue, 13 Oct 1998 02:00:02 -0400 (EDT) From: Michael Shalayeff Message-Id: <199810130600.CAA28102@lucifier.dial-up.user.akula.net> Subject: Re: OpenBSD-mobile: APM? I did this using the DOS PS2 command that came with the laptop. * Despite the Neomagic chipset, I got (unaccelerated) X working fine in 1024x768 mode. I untarred the linux package from http://www.mnsinc.com/js/Neomagic.html onto an OpenBSD XFree86 linkkit to build a new SVGA server. And it is now "stock" in OpenBSD (current, and will be in 2.4). I didn't want to bother with linkkit, so I just downloaded the X snapshots (thanks to those who generate all those snapshots!!), and use them. I did tweak my XConfig file a bit, using info from mnsinc/js's web site. My neomagic is in a Dell Lattitude notebook, btw. I use the following set of PCMCIA cards with success: Motorola Montana 33.6 Modem/Fax 3Com 3c589(B and D) Adaptec SCSI APA-1460A The builtin modem is never recognized. Audio support is in the form of something that looks like a SoundBlaster compatible card. The kernel recognizes it, but I have not played with it yet. The mouse (actually, a TrackPoint-like thing) is generic PS/2. /usr/sbin/apmd runs ok. 'apm -S' works fine. However, 'apm -z' or 'zzz' puts the machine in such a deep sleep that it cannot recover. I used information from the Linux laptop page to get X and some other things working. My machine may not be representative of all Tecras because the previous owner indicated that it stopped working under Linux and Windows. It is recognized under Windows, but it does not work (will not dial). The Toshiba laptop page indicates that it does work under Linux. I recompiled my kernel to include pccom[0-3]. The modem is still not recognized. Someone else will probably need to confirm this. It is not a big problem for me since I already have a PCMCIA modem card. One thing I forgot to mention, the IR device is recognized as a serial device. Is there any OpenBSD support for such a thing like that? I really do not have anything for it talk to, but I thought I would ask. Are you sure Windows actually detects a modem, and not the IR port ? That would explain why it can't dial. It just behaves like a com port; you can run SLIP or PPP over it -- although they are typically fairly slow (like 1200 bps). - -Angelos -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: 2.6.3ia Charset: noconv Comment: Processed by Mailcrypt 3.4, an Emacs/PGP interface iQEVAwUBNjanBHcrsxJuc7vBAQH41gf/ZZTSHIQTowK8x7AWi+sXS1EXBO56KnzV I4j8L6j6P3EG3O8H1VNUtzoBFRKSidof9l6ZNXapLYsfFRKWvs1Ve+DcL38NSwLO Djos5BH9QHffmgf2xs6RVJ4beE9EYdB+cjLbZunthZy0Ia4Zwcua/hM7GKDoGywq j0FNnhrSTKMz6GxwvcmDw9dQzUuoSHMmx8aLHIFPV3TjD4w+FMlh/8wEYHZRGR0P 9jkuQjmN0u5y8bYCZfOR7U1l157SPLbGki79cgRKkHXzfIYz7isEpuHFj9lNqzQ4 dtEvYJx/I9D+tbsT1tVDOGqQAe80vTaA7A57bSQHhAnughIVd/OivA== =JsFs -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From owner-openbsd-mobile-outgoing Fri Oct 30 00:58:08 1998 Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile-outgoing@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (VMailer, from userid 502) id CE56AAA97; Fri, 30 Oct 1998 00:58:07 -0500 (EST) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (VMailer, from userid 1001) id CE4AABB6A; Fri, 30 Oct 1998 00:58:05 -0500 (EST) Delivered-To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Received: by naughty.monkey.org (VMailer, from userid 1137) id CE6320388; Thu, 29 Oct 1998 20:18:28 -0500 (EST) Date: Thu, 29 Oct 1998 20:18:27 -0500 (EST) From: eric jackson To: openbsd-mobile@monkey.org Subject: Re: OpenBSD-mobile: Toshiba Tecra 720CDT In-Reply-To: <199810280509.AAA16375@nyarlathotep.cis.upenn.edu> Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk I have a toshiba tecra 550cs laptop, my modem works fine now, and has always, even with the GENERIC kernel.
