However, I've been less than successful with X; older HiNotes had some C&T chip or another, but apparently the 2000 has some different chipset. This was not the case with 2.4. This was with a 3Com 589C card on a 10/100 ethernet. The same card has worked in the same LAN with my old Toshiba Tecra. Keromytis" Sender: openbsd-mobile-owner@monkey.org Precedence: bulk Return-Path: This is the dmesg output from a working HiNote 2000. I solved the problem with the networking card not networking by boot -c'ing and then disabling the pcmcia pccom entry. If I don't do that, there's apparently some unresolved irq conflict. At the bottom of the message is the dmesg output when I don't disable said pccom. That entry is, I believe, the built-in Xircom modem (the notebook comes with a built-in Xircom 10/100 Ethernet+modem card). Short of compiling a new kernel (which I don't want to do, as I will only have this laptop for about a month), is there any way to tell the kernel to disable that entry automatically (wishful thinking) ? Everything seems to work perfectly fine, even apm (yes, fully working). I haven't tried X yet, I'll send a followup message when I get that working. -Angelos --- snip working dmesg --- t mainbus0: AT/286+(81) BIOS, date 03/28/96 bios0: pciinfo 0xf04a100c apminfo 0xf04a1028 diskinfo 0xf04a1050 cksumlen 1 memmap 0xf04a10cc apm0 at bios0: Power Management spec V1.2 apm0: battery life expectancy 100% apm0: AC on, battery charge high pci0 at mainbus0 bus 0: configuration mode 1 (bios) pchb0 at pci0 dev 0 function 0 vendor "Picopower Technology", unknown product 0x1 rev 0x05 vendor "Picopower Technology", unknown product 0x2 (class bridge, subclass miscellaneous, rev 0x00) at pci0 dev 5 function 0 not configured "Chips and Technologies 65554" rev 0xc2 at pci0 dev 6 function 0 not configured "Texas Instruments PCI1131" rev 0x01 at pci0 dev 7 function 0 not configured "Texas Instruments PCI1131" rev 0x01 at pci0 dev 7 function 1 not configured "CMD Technology PCI0643" rev 0x00 at pci0 dev 8 function 0 not configured isa0 at mainbus0 isadma0 at isa0 wdc0 at isa0 port 0x1f0-0x1f7 irq 14 atapibus0 at wdc0 acd0 at atapibus0 drive 1: ATAPI 5/cdrom removable acd0: 4134Kb/sec, 128Kb cache, audio play, 255 volume levels wd0 at wdc0 drive 0: wd0: 3909MB, 7944 cyl, 16 head, 63 sec, 512 bytes/sec, 8007552 sec total wd0: using 16-sector 16-bit pio transfers, lba addressing (468KB cache) sb0 at isa0 port 0x220-0x237 irq 7 drq 1: dsp v3.01 midi0 at sb0: audio0 at sb0 opl0 at sb0: model OPL3 midi1 at opl0: pcppi0 at isa0 port 0x61 midi2 at pcppi0: sysbeep0 at pcppi0 lpt0 at isa0 port 0x378-0x37b: polled npx0 at isa0 port 0xf0-0xff: using exception 16 pccom0 at isa0 port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4: ns16550a, 16 byte fifo pccom1 at isa0 port 0x2f8-0x2ff irq 3: ns16550a, 16 byte fifo vt0 at isa0 port 0x60-0x6f irq 1: generic VGA, 80 col, color, 8 scr, mf2-kbd pms0 at vt0 irq 12 fdc0 at isa0 port 0x3f0-0x3f5 irq 6 drq 2 pcic0 at isa0 port 0x3e0-0x3e1 iomem 0xd0000-0xd3fff pcic0: controller 0 (Cirrus PD672X) has sockets A and B pcmcia0 at pcic0 controller 0 socket 0 pcmcia0: CIS version PC Card Standard 5.0 pcmcia0: CIS info: Xircom, CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56, CEM56, 1.00 pcmcia0: Manufacturer code 0x105, product 0x110a pcmcia0: function 0: network adapter, ccr addr ff80 mask 67 pcmcia0: function 0, config table entry 39: I/O card; irq mask 8ebc; iomask a, iospace 2e8-2ef; powerdown pcmcia0: function 0, config table entry 31: I/O card; irq mask 8ebc; iomask a, iospace 3e8-3ef; io8 io16 powerdown pcmcia0: function 0, config table entry 23: I/O card; irq mask 8ebc; iomask a, iospace 2f8-2ff; io8 io16 powerdown pcmcia0: function 0, config table entry 15: I/O card; irq mask 8ebc; iomask a, iospace 3f8-3ff; io8 io16 powerdown pcmcia0: function 0, config table entry 63: I/O card; irq mask 8ebc; iomask 3, iospace 0-7; io8 io16 powerdown "Xircom, CreditCard Ethernet 10/100 + Modem 56, CEM56, 1.00" (manufacturer 0x105, product 0x110a) function 0 not configured pcmcia1 at pcic0 controller 0 socket 1 pcic0: irq 9 pcic1 at isa0 port 0x3e2-0x3e3 iomem 0xd4000-0xd7fff pcic1: controller 0 (Intel 82365SL Revision 1) has sockets A and B pcmcia2 at pcic1 controller 0 socket 0 pcmcia2: CIS version PCMCIA 2.0 or 2.1 pcmcia2: CIS info: 3Com Corporation, 3C589, TP/BNC LAN Card Ver. 2a, 000002 pcmcia2: Manufacturer code 0x101, product 0x589 pcmcia2: function 0: network adapter, ccr addr 10000 mask 3 pcmcia2: function 0, config table entry 1: I/O card; irq mask ffff; iomask 4, iospace 0-f; rdybsy_active wp_active bvd_active io8 io16 irqlevel pcmcia2: function 0, config table entry 3: I/O card; irq mask ffff; iomask 4, iospace 0-f; rdybsy_active wp_active bvd_active io8 io16 irqlevel ep1 at pcmcia2 function 0 port 0x340-0x34f: 3Com 3c589 10Mbps Ethernet, address 00:60:97:47:76:a2, utp/aui/bnc (default utp) pcmcia2: card irq 5 pcmcia3 at pcic1 controller 0 socket 1 pcic1: irq 10 biomask 40c0 netmask 40e0 ttymask 56e2 root on wd0a pctr: 586-class performance counters and user-level cycle counter enabled dkcsum: wd0 matched BIOS disk 80 rootdev=0x0 rrootdev=0x300 rawdev=0x302 IP Filter: initialized. The only complaint I've got is that sometimes you have to reboot to get the pms0 (mouse device) to be recognized. Other than that minor detail it rocks.
