Re: Sun loans Ultra30 Systems to Debian

The Sun Microprocessor folks supported the FreeBSD/sparc port, but
this was killed when Sun reorganized. Another division of Sun must
be loaning the machines. This represents a much lower level of
commitment than funding a full time developer.
The initiative for all of these loaner systems, of which I obtained
the first few, originates from Sun's CEO himself. I cannot fathom
where higher levels of commitment could originate. Sun joined Linux
International as part of this, they do testing in their labs for my
project, etc.
In essence you could argue that they are paying my main contact for
about half of his time which is spent doing Linux/Sun related tasks.
Added up, I consider all these elements together to be a higher level
of commitment than a single engineer working on a port internally.
