moused becomes unresponsive in 2.8(i386)

moused fuctions normally for 30-60 minutes (I haven't actually timed it,
I just know that it works after a reboot and when I come back after
doing something else it does not) then does not respond.
Looking at the moused pid in top after it ceases to respond it
alternates between an idle and a sleep state, but I have no cursor or
any functionality onscreen.  If i kill -9 the moused pid and restart it
with the arguments I call it with in /etc/rc.conf the moused works
normally again, only to go back to sleep after the same amount of time.
I am calling moused with the arguments "-3 -p /dev/cua00".  It is a
Logitech Mouseman+ with wheel, and I amm using it as serial on com1
because I also use Openstep 4.2 on this box and for some reason Openstep
freaks out if I use the mouse on ps/2 ever since I got the via chipset
mobo.  Sorry if this isn't enough info, but I'm not a hacker really,
just an enthusiast.
