Can you tell us which XFree86 driver you are using ? The bug is
probably in the X driver that doesn't save/restore VGA fonts
correctly. 

This kind of problem did'nt show up with PCVT, because PCVT had its
own VGA save/restore code around X sessions. 

I won't re-open the PR, but you should send it to XFree86 instead.
