Thank you Artur for your fast response and the hint. :)
Just in case of misunderstanding I would like to point out that the
laptop seemed to work ok with Cisco gear, but with that poor old
Synoptics model 800 10Base-T hub it gets confused. I considered
setting the media manually with the hub, but rejected the idea back then
since it seemed that the media was detected correctly. I shall
re-check.
BTW, I forgot to mention that I've also used the same OS installation
(the same hard disk actually) in IBM A21, with that poor old hub, even
with the same network cable, without any problems.
