I decided to try out 2.5 on my Sparc IPX and have had problems. I must say
the installation was a doddle though.
Firstly the tcp network performance dropped from >900kB/sec under SunOS4
to 750 inwards and 550 outwards under OpenBSD. This perhaps confirms what
my 486 has led me to believe that OpenBSD isn't too hot in that
Secondly and more seriously I have had some panics. This happened the
first time (but not subsequently) quitting the ftp client, and at least
twice when I have rebooted (with the fsck), logged in and typed "perl -v".
Having said that I compiled vnc without a hitch and that took an more than
an hour. Also these machines were working for an ISP a month or so ago and
were stable under SunOS.
Anyway this is the panic which has had the same register values on all
traptype 0x7: px=0xf8031700 npc=0xf80316dc psr=0xffffffff90801fc4
panic: alignment fault
stopped at debugger: ta %icc,0x1
If you really think a newer kernel will fix it I'll install one otherwise
I'll get myself a NetBSD or Solaris.
