NIC, again

It seems that lot of people have a lot to say about their experiences with different network cards.

So, here's my idea:

Please send me an email (richar01@gel.ulaval.ca) and tell me exactly which network card (brand name and model) and/or chipset you use, if it can be classified as a good card or not (good=useable) and other comments you may have (works fine under other
OSes, conflicts with other hardware, uses of CPU, and any other things you may think about).

I'll try to make a kind of database, or maybe a FAQ, with all answers to help us and futur users to buy a NIC that will fit our needs. Maybe giving a price range could be great too...

For example:

I have a 3COM 3C905B 10BaseT ISA connected to a cable-modem and it works fine, except that with the generic kernel, it uses ep0 and ep1 (and is in fact ep1) because of a pnp story or something.
I also have a Intel 10/100BaseTX PCI that serves a 1-computer LAN and do the job well.
I paid 10$ for the 3COM (used) and 80$ for the Intel (new). For sure the Intel NIC is a great buy, but considering the price, 3COM is very satisfying, as it doesn't need 100 MBps transfers.
I also ever had a generic NE2000 card (SMC chipset) that I received with my cable-modem that was just to slow to be used.

I'd like to be more precise, but I don't have the time to open my computer to inspect my hardware right now. But, for sure, I'll do it next week if you do too!

Thanx a lot in advance for your help!

Michael
