Problem with pmax/3min/2.6/GENERIC#1

After installing 2.6 from the fs dd'd onto a jaz disk (I used that to run
the install program and do a proper install) on my DecStation 5000/120
(3min), the system works but on boot up it always prompts me for the root
device. As well, after I give it the root device it drops me to a shell in
single user mode which I have to exit so that it will boot up in multiuser
mode. How can I fix it so that it will stop doing this?

Also one note: if a PMAG-B is installed but the serial console is used (as I
am doing), there is something that is very confusing and should probably be
fixed up. during boot up, when it gets to the scsi configuration, it
switches from serial console to the PMAG-B without warning. It appears as
though the system is hung even though it is not. Removing the card makes
everything work, but it would be nice if I could leave the card in place. At
least it should warn that it is shutting down the serial console and moving
to the PMAG-B.
