It has been around long enough to have found itself into the FAQs, and
I can vouch for it on 2.5.

It appears to have something to do with the logical geometry of the
disk, not just LILO, and it isn't certainly isn't just OpenBSD. I've
seen IDE and SCSI hard disks do this when changing from one controller
to another (in the case of IDE drives, usually involving a computer
which doesn't recognize drives of that size, in the case of SCSI, it
usually has to do with <1G and >1G drives, although I think I have
also seen it switching between old Future Domain and Adaptec
controllers). DOS and its decendents tend to just hang with no
message. At least "Using Drive: 0 Partition: 3" seems to be a
universal message, giving us something to search for.
<CheapJab>Searching Windows tech support for "System hangs" tends to
bring up every single item in the database... </CheapJab>
