I only had to poke cyrus-imapd with sharp sticks for a couple of days to
get it obey me. It's reasonably-well documented, and there are quite a
number of docs on the net on what to do once you get it installed.
I've no idea of the security of the system, but I'd heard a number of
horror stories concering UW code (especially their imapd) so I didn't feel
like running uw-imapd.
Cyrus-imapd includes a pop3 server.
