Re: traffic band
O.k., ALTQ is stable. Now for the OpenBSD question: Is it SECURE?
OpenBSD is clearly, if not the best OS for core, out-of-box security,
better than anything else I can think of, but it is never any more
secure than the weakest app run on it (right?). Anyone have any
comments as to what ALTQ does to OpenBSD's security? Is it "shielded"
enough by the OS as to not matter? Or is it hanging far enough on the
"outside" that it needs to go through whatever security audit stuff
before it should be considered "OpenBSD Grade"?
Does it show I have only the slightest clue as to what I am talking
about? 8)
What I like about OpenBSD is it appears to be the _ONLY_ choice to
hang on the 'net without a firewall or without very regular monitoring
(most of my clients don't have IS staffs). I don't want to mess that
up!
Hmmm...that leads to another security-related question: When
something is put into the ports, is it just tested to WORK on OpenBSD,
or is it indicating that it doesn't negatively impact the OpenBSD
security?
Nick.
