Re: Using ppp to connect between two serial ports

Have you tried the direct-client/direct-server config entries from
ppp.conf.sample ? The config you mentioned below is ok as long as
you switch the IP numbers in the config at the other end of the wire.
Also, make sure you've got a working CD - your regular laplink cable
doesn't, and requires LQR (as per the example in ppp.conf.samples.

Also, ensure that you have a ``set login'' or that you've got the
remote side using pp= in /etc/gettytab.

Our intention is to connect into each computer's serial 0 port using the serial cable and then try to transmit data across by using the ppp protocol. We have looked over the manual pages for ppp, pppd, and ifconfig. Most of the documentation is geared toward dialing up and setting up a modem which we are not looking to do. By using the ifconfig, I have found 3 tun interfaces (tun0, tun1, & tun2) but none of them are running. I checked the generic kernel configuration file. I was unable to find a pseudo-device tun N statement. All I was able to find was pseudo-device pctr 1 statement. Can I alter the pseudo-device pctr 1 statement into a pseudo-device tun 0 statement? Will that work?
