I'm not even close to being a sendmail expert, but still I found it the MTA that best servers my purposes, and there is a lot of documentation out there for it. If you want sendmail to deliver to maildirs (like qmail and I think postfix too) that could be easily achieved with procmail. Protect sendmail with smap (www.fwtk.org) or smtpd (already installed) and you have a secure and reliable solution that is rahter straight forward to administer. This in conjunction with courier-imapd is IMHO a very nice mail-solution.
