I, too, like this idea. I recently got hold of a FreeBSD handbook copy and I
found it to be a very good reference book. Admittedly, its contents are
taken from the web site but in my opinion, it is a good idea to have a paper
copy because (these are personal prefs):
1-I'm not always in front of a computer. When I'm travelling, I enjoy having
that handbook to find out how to make some stuff (enabling Skey, getting a
look @ the isakmpd stuff ...etc)
2-Let's say I have to get x OpenBSD boxes ready & kicking somewhere
completely isolated from the Internet. I could make use of a ref book on
that shelf above the machines
3-I figured out that I enjoy the smell of good paper and that I learn faster
and in a more efficient manner if I have some kind of printed docs
I've noticed that the FreeBSD handbook has been made with DocBook. Maybe we
can take some of the ideas of the FreeBSD doc team.
Also, the three ring binder is a very nice idea. you buy the book once and
you keep updating. We can also give the choice of getting the 3 ring binder
form or a FreeBSD-handbook-like book.
I hope we can work out a solution for this because I'd be really pleased
(along w/ some other ppl of my acquaintance) to have suck a book. And last
but not least, selling ref books will get some money to the project.
More comments/thoughts please !!!
