RE: Beginner's networking problems / paper documentation

Thanks to all for the replies; the su vs. normal user problem was
permissions on the /etc/resolv.conf file - duh! Serves me right for
only working on my setup late at night. Curiously the permissions
were ----w--w- which is the umask of root... The resolv.conf file seems
to get rewritten by (?)PPP when I connect to my ISP, perhaps this
explains the funny permissions.
Unfortunately I managed to completely break PPP so I'm going to do a
complete re-install from CD, and go through my log implementing the changes
I need, and see where I get to this time.

On the subject of hardcopy documentation, of course I'd love something
aimed perfectly at me! Actually I think I might be quite typical of OpenBSD
newbies - I'm computer literate, with some *nix knowledge, who wants to
build a gateway/firewall/server machine for my home network, which will
connect
to the outside world by PPP at first, then a cablemodem once I'm happy with
it.

I think most people will come to OpenBSD because they have heard it is
"secure out of the box" and not too hardware hungry, and they want to build
a
box like mine, and not as a first computer system. BSD programming is well
covered in other books and online documentation, so the coverage should be
very much like "The Complete FreeBSD"; System installation, setup and
administration for computer literate people not familiar with OpenBSD, but
with more completeexplanations of Firewalling and NAT.

N.B. I have bought the "Building Firewalls with..." book, and it is very
good, but too light on the System Administration side of things to be a
"one stop shop".
