OPENBSD_2_7 ports branch
(Please note and obey the reply-to header)
As most of you know, changes to the ports tree in the last month mean
that -current ports can not be built on an OPENBSD_2_7 system. Thus the
addition of OPENBSD_2_7 ports. The purpose of the OPENBSD_2_7 ports tag
is to identify ports that build on an OPENBSD_2_7 system, nothing more.
PORTS WITH THE OPENBSD_2_7 TAG SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED STABLE.
There is no concept of -stable when it comes to the ports tree.
There are only ports that build on a given OpenBSD system and ports that
do not build. If you want the `latest' (which does not mean `best', or
even `working') port that will build on an OPENBSD_2_7 system you can now:
$ cd /usr/ports
$ cvs -q -d anoncvs@some.anon.server:/cvs up -r OPENBSD_2_7 -Pd
Security problems found after the `build on 2.7' cut-off date can be
brought into this branch. However, it requires that that someone build
and test the changes using a 2.7 system, then forward the changes to me
for inclusion into the 2.7 branch. I do not have a 2.7 system so will
have to rely on others to provide patches. As things stand now the
OPENBSD_2_7 branch are ports changes up to August 15. Nothing after
that date is in the OPENBSD_2_7 branch.
Final note: This is something of an experiment. We may do things
differently (or not at all) for the next release. Now let the
bitches/moans/complaints/comments begin.
