I'm not going to be of much use here. Our amanda *servers* are freebsd.
So as far as low level debugging on OpenBSD server side, I can't help.
As for the OpenBSD client, I've had no problems.
I can tell you that we use <ncr 53c825a fast10 wide scsi> scsi cards,
and <DEC DLT2000 8519> Removable Sequential Access SCSI-2 device drives.
(again this is on freebsd, so probably not too helpful)
