No it shouldn't.   Savage support was added to the OpenBSD version of
X11 (which is a different/enhanced version of XF86) some time last
month.   It works fine on my T20 laptop, for example.

Not enough research.   Downloading a recent snapshot, or bilding from
the OpenBSD X11 sources (see release(8)) is all that is needed.
