in 2.8 snapshots my Savage (3D) works just fine. i didn't play with,
for some longer period of time, but for a couple of days it was ok.
what about Savage/MX, AFAIK the driver in OpenBSD's X's was written
indeed for Savage/MX...

no need to recomplile, OpenBSD has already built the driver in 3.3.6,
use and enjoy...
