Or use mergemaster, which runs very fine for me (except that it doesn't
delete the files I 'I'nstalled from the temp root, regardless of whether
the file was the original new file or a merge result, so remember which
files you already installed and if it's only those that remain in
the temp root, you may answer "yes" to the question for removing the
temporary file tree).

PS: I'm of the opinion that mergemaster should be included in 2.8.
If it's in the base tree one might say something like "use on your own
risk" in the documentation (mergemaster(8), if there's a reference to
that from elsewhere, that warning could be included in the reference, too).
