Associating File Extensions

Does anybody know how to make KDE associate certain file types with certain 
programs.  Like .txt with Abiword or Nedit?  Or .jpg .jpeg with gimp?

When I ran SuSE this was automatically setup so that KDE ran certain 
programs for file types so I know it can be done.
