Without expected info like: IS / full? How empty is it?
I'll guess:
A quick thought is "USE PARTITIONS" even for a home system.
You fill up /tmp, you fill up /var/ your machine will likely
stop (many things die when they have no space).
Mono-partitions are just lazy (not just you, I run into it a lot)
and while it saves time at the beginning, dealing with "where did
my space go" later uses up far more time.
I have yet to be convinced of any reason not to partition on
any machine with more than 75MB disks.
