About the beeps, that is very very very odd. Those beeps shouldn't cross
terminal boundaries. Are you sure your friends aren't just write(1)ing ^Gs
to you? :)
As for the mp3s, you cannot direct the sound to their system without
using something similar to shoutcast. That is ugly. Let them NFS mount
an mp3 share. (exports(5).)
Also note:
$ cd /dev ; ls -l *audio* mixer music sequencer sound
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 42, 128 Sep 1 23:35 audio
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 42, 192 Sep 1 23:35 audioctl
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 42, 16 Sep 1 23:35 mixer
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 53, 0 Sep 1 23:35 music
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 53, 128 Sep 1 23:35 sequencer
crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 42, 0 Sep 1 23:35 sound
Fix that, and they won't be able to play mp3s to your machine.
(On another note -- what do the rmidi* devices do? Their major number is
different from these two, so I wonder if it has anything to do with
midi, or if I am smoking crack. :)
