Really? How lucky my modem didn't notice ;-)) I have been using an Alcatel
Speedtouch Home (external modem) with PPPoE for several months.

Maybe you are referring to the Alcatel A1000 modems (and even there only the
early generation, IIRC), or the internal or USB version of the Speedtouch
series? Of course, your telco has to support PPPoE as well...
