Hmmm, I knew I should've explained it better. OK, sorry guys, here it goes:
I've got this AMD K6-II 550 Mhz with an Asus P5A-B motherboard that
always overheats when I try to run CPU intensive processes. Unfortunately,
changing the CPU to an equivalent, or the motherboard did me no good, the
same thing happened.
As I've got no money to buy a Pentium or the change to a completely
different MB (when I changed for the same I used the "warranty") and
lowering the activity of the CPU would IMHO solve the problem.
I know how nice(1) works, but it really does not solve my problem. Thank
you all for the answers and sorry if not explaining it better got us all
into a flamewar (great that it ended soon).
