I just want to add that pinging localhost, 127.0.0.1
and the box's IP address are identical. Just because
you specify the machines IP address and not loopback
does not mean any packets leave and travel the network.
If you specify the machines own IP address in a ping,
your machine recognizes this and treats it as loopback.
If I'm wrong about this, please somebody point me to
the light.
