2.8 boot floppy hangs
Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade from 2.7 to 2.8 on a Dell Optiplex
466/MXe (486/66DX, 64M memory) with a Western Digital Caviar 2GB IDE drive
and a Mitsumi IDE CDROM. This machine cannot boot from the CDROM drive.
Booting from any of the floppy images ("regular", B or C) gets this far:
wdc0 at isa0 port 0x1f0/8 irq 14
atapiscsi0 at wdc0 channel 0
scsibus0 at atapiscsi0: 2 targets
wdc0:0:1 device timeout, c_bcount = 0, c_skip = 0
and that last message just repeats about every 5 mins forever....
It does the same thing if I disable pcibios. There are no pci slots in
this machine.
So I guess my questions are:
Can you think of any way to get around this prob on the 2.8 boot floppy?
Or since the 2.7 floppy works fine is there any way to fool that upgrade
installation script (or edit it) to continue on the upgrade path?
Any other ideas? Or should I just be happy with 2.7 on that machine and
call it a day? ;-)
Thanks in advance.
