Keeping current via CVS?

Is there a FAQ on keeping current via CVS? I would like to do
a make build every so often, or when ever I hear about a security
hole. From reading some of the posts here, it seems that this is
what some people do here. How can I be down?

BTW: I think being able to edit my kernel binary is incredible and
thank you for making that possible.
