Yup. You're right. I didn't immediately connect the FAQ to the problem
because it boots fine in the docking station. Will be trying a couple of
them shortly.

I had the same problem. There is an FAQ item that talks about this at:

http://www.openbsd.org/faq/faq14.html#14.6

I tried different methods but still ended up using osbs.
