Pardon me, but is this discussion really going anywhere? (I'm by no means
suggesting I didn't participate in going nowhere myself earlier.)

I could easily imagine that something that would be both realistic and
perhaps even helpful could be achieved by creating a new entry / new entries
in the FAQ, explaining

[1] Which daemons are included in your system by default.
[2] Perhaps even a short description on why it is so. (Citing
       the mail archives upon this.)
[3] How to disable these daemons (I should think that links
to afterboot(8) and rc(1) should suffice.)
[4] How to override these daemons with a port such as postfix,
       qmail, bind9, djbdns, aso.
[5] How to update these daemons from /usr/src.

Yes, there are already entries on some of these points for specific
daemons, but I'm looking for something more generic. (Except for the
recompilation, which is quite generic as it is, but does not necessarily
explain in enough detail how you would update Apache, Bind, aso. in
specific - not to mention that some people seem to look for them in
ports instead of the main system source.)

Another yes, most of this is explained in afterboot manual page or other
man entries. Unfortunately, sad as it may seem, some people actually
prefer to read FAQ entries over a network connection instead of a
perfectly good manual page that's already on their system.

I would gladly volunteer for assisting on this if anyone thinks this
is not an overly stupid idea, if only the FAQ maintainers think my
English and my overall grasp of OpenBSD and its principles will
suffice.

Comments are of course welcome both on the list or to my personal
address.
