SCSI SCB error w/2.9beta Apr19 snapshot

problem:

attempting to mount a CD-ROM on my CD-writer (Teac CD-R55S) I
just get the following error-msg:

cd1(ahc1:4:0): Bus Device Reset Message Sent
cd1(ahc1:4:0): no longer in timeout, status = 0

mount_cd9660: /dev/cd1a on /mnt: Device not configured

any subsequent mount attempts yield the following err-msg:

ahc1: target 4 synchronous at 10.0MHz, offset = 0xf
mount_cd9660: /dev/cd1a on /mnt: Device not configured

Same error occurs w/2.8, BTW

FWIW, the machine dual boots into Linux where everything works fine:
I can mount CD-ROMs and record CD-Rs without any problems whatsoever.

SCSI controller is an onboard Adaptec AIC-7880
(see dmesg below)

Any ideas?
