The BIND 4 that comes with OpenBSD is a great way to get started,
cleaner IMO to setup than the newer versions.

The B.O.G. that is in the sources at src/usr.sbin/named/doc/bog
(make bog.ps) is one of the best, shortest intros to DNS records
I've seen.
