Re: Slow Sparc Install (Was Re: Help! Major Sun SS5 ftp Installation problem!)

Hi,

Hm, saw similar behaviour on various intel platforms
installing via a LAN connection of at least 10mbit.

The thought that crept into my brain was that the
harddisk was busily writing away the data received
from the ftp connection, but just could not keep up
with the incoming flood.

Many many small files cost more time to write than
a larger one. Maybe ftp was just 'stalling' for time?

At all times that the install stalled (hence, 'install')
I noticed harddisk activity and the install resumed
within 30 seconds or so.
