Huh?  What's hanging is the user ;P  Maybe by now you read the manpage
and understand what -auto does?  Basicly, it's not dialing because
you're not doing anything that needs an AUTOmatic connection to the
internet.  Just type 'lynx http://www.OpenBSD.org/'.
