wether you need to kick his a** or you can just do the following:

# usermod -s /bin/sh -p `encrypt Petty44` user_login

(beware that they are backsticks)
(beware also that you need to specify the shell again orelse it is setup to
default one
 even if it isn't the user's prefered shell. Bug ? Feature ? whatever  ;))
