You don't understand: I don't have to tell you why telnet is a bad
thing. You have to tell my why it's a good thing. If you can't
explain to me what advantage it has over a more secure protocol such
as ssh, which provides exactly the same functionality to the user,
then you shouldn't be using it. It's that simple. Note that there
could very well be some cases where you could find some reasons why
telnet is the right protocol (perhaps for some reason you need to
monitor the activities of users on your LAN, or you are operating
somewhere where crypto is illegal) but those cases are probably very
atypical.
Cryptography everywhere is a very good idea. OpenBSD is almost
there... It has only one huge gaping hole of plaintext.
