Well, here's what I'd do, if i undestood your problem. You are willing to
install comp.tgz but
have the ability to uninstall everything it installed when you are done with
what you are planning
to do. If i'm wrong, please be more explicit cause I don't get the problem
;)
why not use tar xvf to extract the archive and save the output in a log file
that you can then pass
to a small sh script to uninstall the whole set. If you do that, you can
even work on uninstalling a
specific part of the comp archive and leave other parts intacts. Writing
such a script is a matter
of minutes (_no_ i can't do it as i am overflowed with work right now, but i
can still help you in
doing so if that's what you want =]).
