How do su messages get sent to ttyC0?

Hello and thanks again to those that take the time to read/respond.

My boss and I really like the way messages are posted directly to the 
ttyC0 console when someone either authenticates or fails to athenticate 
with 'su'.

In fact we like this feature so much, we wonder how we might be able to 
apply it to other types of system events.

Can someone please give us a hint and a nudge in the right direction to 
start looking/reading?
