Have you ever considered trying to do it yourself?  It probably wouldn't
be all that difficult, but it would take time.  The only way to get the
experience would be to just jump right in and go for it.  I'd be willing
to help you along and answer questions.

You'll never learn to be a kernel hacker if you "read through the source
code", and wait for that perfect project to come along.  People too often
make that mistake.  THe only way tolearn how to do this stuff is to decide
that you want to give it a shot, and dive in.  You'll make plenty of
mistakes and get lost, but you'll learn as you go.
