Difficulty in upgrading to 3.0 current/snapshot

I have a system that is running 2.9-stable. (the dmesg output
follows and is annotated.) The machine has two of its disks operating
in RAID-1 configuration using a 3ware Escalade controller. See the
twe0 entries below.

It's not possible for me to use a 3.0 floppy to update/upgrade
as the twe driver has been removed from the boot floppy.

So I tried to test out an update by first booting from the
current 3.0 snapshot by copying it to /bsd.snap and booting
from the boot loader ala:

	boot hd0a:/bsd.snap

At this point everything proceeds normally, until the
scsibus0 line at which point the system hangs for about 20 seconds.
it then chugs on and says:

pciide0:1:0: device timeout waiting to send SCSI packet

It does finally detect the twe card but assigns the drive to
sd1 rather than sd0 (as in the 2.9 case). Then the system
hangs forever after the:

dkcsum: wd0 matched BIOS disk 81

line.

Any ideas how to get my system upgraded?
