Hello,
I'm not sure if this should go to tech or not; if it
should please bounce this question over to tech.
I would like to upgrade my OpenBSD 3.0 i386 firewall to
the March 6th snapshot because of the OpenSSH issue.
I booted the floppy30.fs floppy (yes, I tried several
different physical floppies) and I always receive the
following error message:
---------- 8< ----- CUT HERE ----- 8< ----------
aha0 at isa0 port 0x330/4 irq 11 drq 5: model AHA-1542CF, firmware C.0
aha0: unlocking mailbox interface
aha0: async, parity
fatal page fault in supervisor mode
trap type 6 code 0 eip e020a455 cs 8 eflags 10283 cr2 364 cpl 0
panic: trap type 6, code=0, pc=e020a455
---------- 8< ----- CUT HERE ----- 8< ----------
For giggles, I tried booting the March 6th i386
stock kernel from the hard disk
cp /pub/OpenBSD/snapshots/i386/bsd /bsd.TEST
shutdown -r now
boot /bsd.TEST
and received the following error message:
---------- 8< ----- CUT HERE ----- 8< ----------
aha0 at isa0 port 0x330/4 irq 11 drq 5: model AHA-1542CF, firmware C.0
aha0: unlocking mailbox interface
aha0: async, parity
kernel: page fault trap, code=0
Stopped at _aha_init+0x1bd: pushl 0x34(%ebx)
---------- 8< ----- CUT HERE ----- 8< ----------
For grins, I tried booting the February 23rd i386
floppy30.fs floppy, and it produced the same
panic and error message as the March 6th floppy.
I also tried booting the March 6th floppyB30.fs
floppy. It booted perfectly <woo-hoo!> but it
doesn't have the aha driver <sniffle>.
So, it appears to be something in the Adaptec
SCSI driver. FWIW, I've never had a problem
with OpenBSD 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9 or 3.0. It
could just be a snapshot issue that will be
resolved before 3.1, but I was just curious
if anyone else has seen this behavior.
The "normal" stock OpenBSD 3.0 i386 kernel message
looks like
---------- 8< ----- CUT HERE ----- 8< ----------
aha0 at isa0 port 0x330/4 irq 11 drq 5: model AHA-1542CF, firmware C.0
aha0: unlocking mailbox interface
aha0: async, parity

sd0: 2049MB, 3992 cyl, 9 head, 116 sec, 512 bytes/sec, 4197405 sec total
st0 at scsibus0 targ 4 lun 0: <TANDBERG, TDC 4100, =04:> SCSI2 1/sequential removable

---------- 8< ----- CUT HERE ----- 8< ----------
Any ideas? Thanks!
