Strange hardware problems
Hi all,
I have a machine running OpenBSD3 with two NICs and 3 big IDE drives on
two different controllers. The system runs NAT, samba and my ftpserver
just fine with one exception: When I try to copy a big file, say 700
megs, to the wd2 disk from another machine via ftp or a smb-share the
NIC to my "inner" net just goes silent after a couple of hundred megs.
The smb-share or ftp connection is of course broken (as are all
connections to my netword behind the OBSD machine) and the file is not
correctly transferd. The machines can no longer ping each other but
ifconfig says that the interface is active. But the wierd part is that
nothing shows up in the logs. No erromessages at all, and if I go to the
console and run tcpdump on that NIC then everything start to work again
after a couple of seconds.
I have no idea whats happening, though I suspect both the rl0 NIC and
the pciide1 controller serving the wd2 disk.
Anyone have an idea? I really need this system to work.
Ahh, and if it helps: If i put another disk on the pciide0:1:x or on
pciide1:1:x the system repreatedly tries to downgrade it from DMA to PIO
mode and data gets corrupted on write. So I don't.
Thanks,
/Fred
