Yes, I have read the FAQ. I have read the FAQ since OpenBSD was at 2.8
stage.

And yes, the login.conf is up to date. I've replaced my etc with the
etc30.tgz, and then reapplied my changes (diff etc29 against my installed
one to see my changes from stock etc).

However, you're right about the p flag on tar. That's what made it all
happen.
