Has anyone managed java 1.4 on open3.0?

I need 1.4 as opposed to 1.3 in the ports.  So I downlaoded the gnuzip
binary and ran it and then put it in /emul/linux/usr/local/bin and I get a
memory error of sorts when i try to run the vm.

The exact error:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap

So, I ask has anyone managed to get this to work?  I can't figure out what I
may be doing wrong.  I figure that if I were missing a vital library then it
would complain with that sort of error, but instead it just errors.  Now,
the sun readme says that it has been tested on rh6.2 and since that's what
the emulation is based on it should work.  I'm seriously hoping someone can
point me in the right direction.
