on linux you'd want to use syslog-ng.  it wouldn't be that hard to add
to openbsd's syslog but it would change the file format a bit.  not sure
if other *bsd's have it and it would be best to do it like them if they
have it.

you'd want to have syslog.conf be something like:

    host:*.*		/var/log/host

and then maybe have a default host key that would grab any hosts that
hadn't matched yet:

    _others:*.*		/var/log/unconfigured-hosts
