Hung WHILE installing?
Sounds like you got an incomplete install.  I'd guess you haven't got
much done on configuring it, since you haven't logged in for the first
time.  Just reinstall as Xander Soldaat suggested.  

IF your system broke after install, I would think a boot -s would let
you get in a nd fix whatever is wrong, but odds are, you have a LOT of
wrong stuff, it would be easier and safer to reinstall with APM off. 
Lots of very important things take place in the last few moments of
install (heh.  Lots of important things take place throughout
install!)
