preventing stop condition

Last night, when noone was in the office of course, our mailserver stopped 
(not panic'ed)  with "WARNING: SPL NOT LOWERED ON SYSCALL EXIT".
As I can gather from the archives this is a very rare condition and since the 
tech that came in first just reboot the machine there's no trace either.
What I'm interested in though is if there's a way to prevent the system from 
stopping and just carry on (or reboot or whatever) without manual 
intervention?
It's a 2.9 system, btw.
