n00b.net still down [was Re: pppd]
Since the mail forwarding service at alumni.duke.edu appears to incite
elevated cardiac risk in some viewers, I have undertaken to acquire mail
forwarding services from n00b.net. Unfortunately n00b.net is still
offline, its sysadmin having booted his MS-Win box (purchased on the
advice of his Kellog School of Business CIO, that n00b.net should
standardize on one single platform and that it should be Dell because
the Dude is so cool and MS-Win is finally enterprise-ready according to
the commercials) and failed to find the man command (being a Harvard
Ph.D., he had _read_ and noticed that OpenBSD runs on i386 boxes so se
assumed it would run on the one Dell sent him) so he doesn't know how to
configure the mailserver he is running on another machine. So I'm stuck
until the Yale summer interns get it straightened out.
I also heartily apologize for having "YAMMER"ed at length, god knows
full-time coders are always precise, clear, accurate, and so efficient
with their words that you don't need scroll bars to read the messages
(see Exhibit A), and would never respond with pages of insults on a
public mailing list to a private email containing about little text
written (but ... how could it be? the writer was illiterate! A net
miracle! Call the Pope!) in polite language. Not that this behavior
would be anything but laudable in those fine coders to the North, we
down here our just beginning to learn to beat Mexico in Soccer ...
sorry, "football" ... what do we know about literacy or coolness or
civilization in these swamps?
Heartiest apologies,
Chris
